The Pharmacy has an opening for the position of Operational Pharmacist above grade 12. Basic Functions
Perform a wide range of Pharmacy operational tasks in accordance with departmental policies and procedures. Contribute to developing and implementing new workflows and policies to align with Joint Commission International (JCI) standards. Additionally, engage in various hospital pharmacy duties to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory mandates
Support the mission and vision of the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC) and that of the department.
Minimum Requirements
  • Knowledge: Pertinent knowledge of laws pertaining to the practice of Pharmacy. Pertinent knowledge in technical, professional and scientific areas required by the job. Medical Terminology.
  • Education: Minimum Education: Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree
  • Certifications & Licensures: License to practice pharmacy from the Ministry of Public Health Member of Order of Pharmacists
  • Experience: Minimum Experience: 0-2 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Languages: Minimum Languages: Arabic & English (EEE score >/= 32).
  • Computer Skills: Proficient in the use of Microsoft applications as well as other needed software and databases.

Job Summary

Support the mission and vision of the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC) and that of the department.
Essential Functions / Task Groups
  • Document an accurate and complete list of medications, in accordance with institution-specific medication reconciliation process, resolve discrepancies with prescribers and document any changes in patient records.
  • Adjust medication dosages and makes therapeutic drug monitoring recommendations regarding adjustments, and monitors responses to treatment, adverse drug reactions and drug interactions (e.g., drug-drug, drug-food, drug-disease, drug-lab, or drug-device).
  • Coordinate the activities of the Pharmacy Department, including receiving orders from prescribers and nursing unit, reviewing and checking prescriptions in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Use health care delivery systems and health informatics to optimize the care of individual patients and patient populations.
  • Follow, maintain and reinforce the pharmacy’s medication use policies and processes to ensure proper and safe dosing, storage, handling, dispensing, and/or administration of medications, compounded sterile products and total parenteral nutrition, and make necessary corrections.
  • Ensure compliance with adverse drug reaction or medication error reporting programs, implement safety mechanisms, and continually assess patient safety during transitions of care.
  • Monitor use and ensure adequate control of narcotic drugs and controlled substances from receiving to administration in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements and resolve discrepancies when needed.
  • Perform other related duties including but not limited to entering and maintaining all data indicators and generating reports as mandated by the law and the JCI, providing Inservice education, performing bimonthly nursing unit inspections.
  • Apply knowledge of pharmacology, pharmacotherapy, pathophysiology, and principles & practices of professional pharmacy.
  • Provide patient education and counseling for inpatients and outpatients when appropriate and respond to drug information requests (by
    professional staff & outpatients) completely, accurately, and in a timely fashion.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by direct manager.
