The Radiation Oncology has an opening for the position of Radiation Oncology Registered Nurse II in grade 9 starting at a salary of LBP 1,508,000.- per month. Basic Functions
Provide direct and indirect age specific nursing care to radiation oncology patients within the framework of Patient Centered Care (PCC). Primarily responsible for professional performance and safe patient care as well as managing radiation oncology patients. The role encompasses nursing assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, evaluation, and coordination of care for radiation oncology patients across the health care continuum involving families. Accountable for clinical, educational, quality, and fiscal patient care outcomes, using the PCC principles and in accordance with established institution's policies, procedures, guidelines, Professional Practice Model and standards of care and practice. Carry out planned activities to promote Magnet standards and participate in voluntary community activities. Promote a work environment that supports and facilitates ethical practice, in accordance with the ANA Code of Ethics and the Lebanese Order of Nurses Code of Ethics. Practice within the ANA Bill of Rights. Utilize knowledge of human development stages and cultural diversity into the provision of patient care. Abide by the Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCI) requirements, including but not limited to International Patient Safety Goals, national and international standards.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor Degree of Science in Nursing.
  • No experience required.
  • Nursing Colloquium, Nursing License from the Ministry of Public Health, Registered in the Order of Nurses in Lebanon and Basic Life Support Certification are required.
  • Strong command of Arabic and English (IET >/= 500). French is an asset.
  • Knowledge in the use of Microsoft Office Applications.
  • Work Schedule: Shift rotation basis and/or On-Call

Essential Functions / Task Groups

Age-Specific Patient Centered Care :

  • Perform patient assessment using appropriate, problem focused, and age-specific assessment techniques.
  • Plan, provide and document professional nursing care in Radiation Oncology Department utilizing the nursing process in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Use the nursing process, collect and analyze patient data, make recommendations for nursing care plans, evaluate nursing care provided, document and communicate appropriately nursing actions taken and patient responses.
  • Document all relevant data in the electronic health record AUBHealth according to hospital/departmental standards.
  • Involve the patient, significant others, and health care providers in the plan of care when appropriate.
  • Perform tele-nursing activities. This includes taking phone calls from patients regarding medical questions, test results, and calling patients back with answers in coordination with the physician.
  • Provide nursing care to patients prior and post procedures, and when required.
  • Assist physicians in performing procedures.
  • Prepare patients for Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) and assist neurosurgeon in applying and removing the frame.
  • Assist in preparing patients for brachytherapy or high dose radiotherapy (HDR) and coordinate with physicians and anesthesia team for patient appointment scheduling.
  • Administer medications, monitor desirable and undesirable effects and intervene accordingly.
  • Access/De-access Implantable Venous Access Device (IVAD).
  • Reinforce premedication instructions for radiation oncology patients prior to procedure.
  • Coordinate with the Registered Nurse on the unit the pre-procedure preparation.
  • Communicate patient’s status and procedure performed to the Registered Nurse on the corresponding unit.
  • Accompany unstable patients to their room post procedure or to Emergency Department.
  • Initiate Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation until the code team takes over.
  • Send specimens for laboratories and ensure delivery with proper request and charges.
  • Recognize subtle cues to anticipate potential problems.
  • Implement and monitor infection control measures.
  • Apply safety measures related to patient care.
  • Ensure appropriate sterilization of sets, catheters, wires and other equipment used in radiation oncology department.
  • Operate all unit required equipment safely.
  • Secure and check medical equipment and instruments. Include checking proper functioning, quality control, preventive maintenance and reporting defects or suspicions.
  • Ensure availability and maintenance of supplies and equipment needed for the unit and patient care.

Quality and Effectiveness of Nursing Practice:

  • Assist in research activities and in the collection of relevant data.
  • Conduct and/or participate in PI projects.
  • Participate in quality initiatives and quality improvement activities for improving the unit standards of quality provided.
  • Participate in voluntary community health activities to promote, maintain and restore health and prevent diseases.

  • Accountable for the use of patients’ and hospital resources.
  • Assume responsibility for meeting JCI required mandatory education, e.g., fire, safety, infection control and others.
