The Audiology and Balance Center has an opening for the position of Junior Audiologist in grade 11 starting. Basic Functions
Provide hearing screenings and follow up management for patients of all ages, conducting clinical aspects of a full range of audiology and balance evaluation and treatment services, including behavioral, physioacoustic, and electrophysiological measures of peripheral/central auditory and vestibular function.
Support the mission and vision of the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC) and that of the Department.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Audiology or Allied Sciences from an accredited university
  • 1-3 years of experience in hearing and vestibular assessment/management preferably in a hospital setting
  • Strong command of Arabic and English (IET score >/= 500)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

Job Summary

Essential Functions / Task Groups

Assessment, Identification, Management & Treatment:

  • Conduct newborn hearing screenings (AABR, DPOAE, TEOAE) as well as identify, test, diagnose and manage disorders of human hearing and tinnitus in patients of all ages, using a wide range of behavioral and physiological measures (puretone and speech audiometry, play audiometry, VRA, otoacoustic emissions, immitance, tinnitus protocols, ABR).
  • Conduct assessments to identify balance/vestibular disorders (ie: VNG, CDP, VEMP, VHIT).
  • Assess candidacy of patients with hearing loss for hearing aids and cochlear implants.
  • Perform otoscopic examination, identify when a medical referral is needed and make ear impressions.
  • Collect and interpret data regularly when evaluating patient's performance and progress towards expected outcomes and summarize results in patient's report.
  • Provide informational counselling and assist with psychosocial counselling to patients and families/caregivers on hearing health and the possible need for treatment/management.
  • Recommend hearing aid fitting, programming and audiologic rehabilitation to ensure the best possible outcomes and recommend hearing assistive technology systems (HATS) and provide nonmedical management of tinnitus.

Prevention and Education:

  • Provide educational materials about childhood hearing loss or CAPD to families/caregivers and educators (educational implications of hearing loss, classroom acoustics, classroom amplification systems).
  • Assist with public education/outreach activities, community, school based or occupational hearing, screening and conservation programs as well as the training of Audiology students/interns and audiology educational sessions to staff and/or Residents.
  • Use appropriate methods and instructions to ensure hearing and balance equipment is used safely and without damage to the equipment as well as maintain calibration records for audiologic equipment

Knowledge:
Proficient knowledge in Audiology Science and principles used in the assessment and treatment of auditory and vestibular disorders

Proficient knowledge of audiometric instruments

Education:
Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree in Audiology or Allied Sciences from an accredited university

Experience:
Minimum Experience: 1-3 years of experience in hearing and vestibular assessment/management preferably in a hospital setting

Languages:
Minimum Languages: Arabic and English (IET score >/= 500)

Computer Skills:
Proficient in Microsoft Office
