Job Summary
Provide patient-centered medication management in collaborative team
settings, optimizing outcomes through direct patient care activities to fulfill
hospital pharmacy duties in compliance with legal and regulatory standards.
Perform basic life support and participate in drug treatment management during
medical emergencies. Support the mission and vision of the American University
of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC) and that of the Department.
Essential Functions / Task Groups
Tasks:
- Evaluate drug therapy for appropriateness, effectiveness, safety,
adherence, and affordability.
- Establish and document patient-specific and measurable outcomes, follow-up
and monitor each identified drug therapy problem and the outcome of
therapeutic plans.
- Collaborate with other members of the health care team to achieve optimal
patient outcomes across the continuum of care.
- Manage and/or recommend evidence-based medication therapy, including
initiation, administration, modification, and discontinuation of therapy,
according to the patient’s response, change in condition, or concomitant
therapy to optimize outcomes.
- Interpret drug concentration results, adjust medication dosages, and make
therapeutic drug monitoring recommendations regarding adjustments, monitor
responses to treatmentand address medication related problem including Adverse
Drug Events (ADE) and drug interactions.
- Monitor patients for adverse drug reactions and drug interactions (e.g.,
drug-drug, drug-food, drug-disease, drug-lab, or drug-device).
- Coordinate the activities of the Pharmacy Department, including receiving
orders from prescribers and nursing unit or prescriptions for ambulatory
patients (O.P.D. or Private Clinics), reviewing prescriptions for accuracy and
completeness, determining dose administered and quantities dispensed to
patients in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain and enhance in-depth Pharmacotherapy knowledge of Pharmacology,
Pharmacotherapy, Pharmacoeconomics, assimilate evidence from
scientific/clinical studies and use it as the basis for therapeutic
decision-making related to a patient’s health problem(s).
- Provide patient education and counseling for inpatients and outpatients
when appropriate and respond to drug information requests (by professional
staff & outpatients) completely, accurately, and in a timely fashion.
- Follow, maintain, and reinforce the pharmacy’s medication use policies and
processes to ensure proper and safe dosing, storage, handling, dispensing,
and/or administration of medications, compounded sterile products and total
parenteral nutrition, and make necessary corrections.
- Maintain all data indicators, generate reports as mandated by the law and
the JCI, provide Inservice education and perform bimonthly nursing unit
inspections.
- Perform any related duties as assigned by the direct
supervisor.

Medical Terminology.
Education:
Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree in
Pharmacy. Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) is a plus.
Certifications & Licensures:
License to practice
pharmacy from the Ministry of Public Health Member of Order of Pharmacists.
Experience:
Minimum Experience: 0 - 2 years of
experience in a similar healthcare setting.
Languages:
Minimum Languages: Arabic & English (EEE
score >/= 32).
Computer Skills:
Proficient in the use of Microsoft
applications as well as other needed software and databases.
