The Administration-Laboratory Medicine and Pathology has an opening for the position of Medical Laboratory Technologist in grade 9. Basic Functions
Under general supervision, perform all assigned laboratory routine, moderate and high complexity procedures, while applying accreditation requirements, safety regulations and equipment maintenance.
Support the mission and vision of the American University of Beirut Medical Center and that of the Department.
Minimum Requirements
  • Basic knowledge of laboratory safety and infection control procedures and practices including standard precautions and hazardous chemical handling
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences
  • Working experience as Medical Laboratory Technologist
  • Strong command of Arabic and English (IET score =/> 500)
  • Demonstrate a knowledge and ability to interact with laboratory information system (LIS) and/or hospital information system (HIS) computer functions as it relates to the testing and reporting area
  • Work Schedule: Shift Basis and/or On-Call

Job Summary

Essential Functions / Task Groups

 Testing Management & Specimen Handling:

  • Perform routine to highly complex pathology and laboratory procedures.
  • Follow proper patient/sample identification on the patient/sample received versus corresponding order on AUBHealth as per established policies and procedures.
  • Prepare specimens for analysis, such as centrifuging, aliquoting and preserving as well as utilize technical skills and abilities to perform all tests in simple and moderate complexity testing.
  • Operate, troubleshoot and report failures in test systems (pre-analytical, analytical, and post analytical) and report issues to concerned individuals.
  • Follow the established guidelines and protocols for test reporting and procedures and identify problems which may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and take appropriate action including supervisory notification, if indicated.
  • Perform quality control procedures as the job requires and report quality control failures to support personnel for corrective action as well as participate in laboratory quality assurance programs.
  • Participate in inter and intradepartmental committees as well as standard operating procedures (SOP) review and update processes.
  • Abide by the Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) requirements as well as the College of American Pathologists Laboratory Accreditation.

Equipment and Supplies Management:

  • Operate laboratory equipment and instruments following established protocols as well as perform timely maintenance and report failures to support personnel for corrective action.
  • Perform periodic reagent inventory for the station to ensure availability at all time as well as check and alert for expired or nearly expired reagents and verify reagents for acceptability.

Education:
Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences

Experience:
Preferred Experience: Working experience as Medical Laboratory Technologist

Languages:
Minimum Languages: Arabic and English (IET score =/> 500)

Computer Skills:
Demonstrate basic knowledge and ability to interact with laboratory information system (LIS) and/or hospital information system (HIS) computer functions as it relates to the testing and reporting area
Impact of Actions / Decisions
­Error in conducting test analyses or in reviewing work will be caught by review within the laboratory or by review of test results and reports. However, not all work is technically checked so unreliable results may cause material or financial loss and may affect the diagnosis of the patient and consequently the treatment and the quality of patient care reflecting adversely the laboratory. Error in any test may cause patient fatality. Mistakes at the Blood Bank are not acceptable. Full attention must be given while performing tests, transcribing and entering results.
