The AUBMC Special Kids Clinic has an opening for a Part-Time position of Occupational Therapist in grade 12. Basic Functions
Actively engage people in purposeful activities to promote, regain or maintain health and wellbeing, using occupations as therapy and enabling individuals to do occupations. Work with children and adults of all ages, whose difficulties may be congenital or the result of an accident, illness, aging or lifestyle.
Participate in educational and teaching programs for other sections of the Medical staff on occupational therapy.
Support the mission and vision of the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC) and of the Physical Therapy Department.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • 2 years of experience in occupational therapy is preferred
  • Strong command of Arabic and English (IET >/= 500). French is an asset
  • Proficient in use of various Microsoft applications including Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint

Job Summary

Essential Functions / Task Groups

Patient / Client Management:

  • Assess treatment requested by physician by studying patient records and by examining patient signs and systems, and propose changes in treatment according to findings, as necessary.
  • Assess patient condition and functional status, and prepare a treatment program according to findings, using recognized treatment procedures suitable to the patient condition.
  • Develop and change treatment programs according to patient progress.
  • Discuss with doctors, nursing staff and social workers patient progress.
  • Document assessment findings, goals of treatment, treatment plans as well as patient/family education.
  • Actively engage patient in purposeful activities to promote, regain or maintain health and wellbeing, using occupations as therapy and enabling individuals to do occupations.
  • Work with children and adults of all ages, whose difficulties may be congenital or the result of an accident, illness, aging or lifestyle.
  • Ensure elderly people are cared for appropriately by a family member in their own home, giving consideration to everyday activities such as washing, preparing and eating meals, shopping and mobility
  • Help patient re-build lost skills and restore lost confidence, as well as advising on home and workplace environmental modifications, such as adaptations for wheelchair access.
  • Help patient to cope with disabilities by advising on special equipment to assist with daily activities, such as washing and cooking.
  • Attend ward rounds, as required, as a member of the patient care team. Carry out treatment procedures at the bedside with the assistance of the Physiotherapy Aide.
  • Advise patients and relatives on exercises to be carried out by patients at home.

Professional Practice / Administrative Duties:

  • Teach and lecture to nursing staff and other medical personnel on scope of relevance of Occupational Therapy in the overall case of patients.
  • Continuously update occupational therapy knowledge and skills through attendance of seminars, workshops and specific training.
  • Ensure that all equipment used are in proper working order and report malfunctioning equipment for repairs. Ensure that equipment is cleaned after use and that towels and sheets are changed after every treatment.
  • Perform other related duties, such as maintaining comprehensive patient records, preparing monthly statistics on number of visits and treatment used.

Knowledge:
knowledge of the principles, practices, and ethics of professional occupational therapy

Education:
Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy

Experience:
Minimum Experience: No experience required
Preferred Experience: 2 years of experience in occupational therapy with emphasis on treating hand injuries

Languages:
Minimum Languages: Arabic and English (IET >/= 500).
Preferred Languages: French is an asset.

Computer Skills:
Proficient in use of various Microsoft applications including Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
