Job Summary
Responsible for supervising and
coordinating the provision of quality nursing care in all patient care areas.
This includes maintaining the quality and adequacy of nursing practice, ensuring
safe environment, allocating resources, directing day to day activities,
ensuring equipment and supplies are properly maintained and stored,
participating in professional development and training, performing audits and
carrying on hospital projects as required for optimal quality care,
investigating all incidents/accidents that occur in the hospital on all shifts,
replacing hospital administration on evening and night, and responding to
patients’ problems and complaints if Nurse Manager is not available. Round on
all units in the hospital and implement patient care treatment as needed.
Participate in planning activities to promote Magnet standards at the Nursing
Services Department. Enforce Joint Commission International (JCI) requirements,
including but not limited to International Patient Safety Goals, national and
international standards. Promote a work environment that supports and
facilitates ethical practice, in accordance with the ANA Code of Ethics and the
Lebanese Order of Nurses Code of Ethics. Practice within the ANA Bill of
Rights.
Support the mission and vision of the American University of Beirut
Medical Center (AUBMC) and of the Nursing Services Department.
Essential Functions / Task Groups
Supervise activities of all assigned personnel:
- Oversee collaboration with multidisciplinary health care team and
coordination of medical and nursing management of patient care.
- Monitor compliance for accurate reporting and documentation of all patient
care.
- Collaborate across disciplines to facilitate patient care and operations.
- Ensure the delivery of quality patient care on the nursing units.
- Attend to situations arising during day, evening and night shifts.
- Ensure availability and maintenance of supplies and equipment to meet
patient care needs.
- Act as a role model in the application of standards and philosophy of
nursing practice.
- Provide input in formulating patient care standards of care and practice.
- Ensure proper staffing on all nursing units.
- Check on staffing for each unit and make changes as required covering for
heavy work, illness or vacations.
- Coordinate and communicate with Nursing Administration concerning all
related issues keeping Director of Nursing informed of department activities,
needs, and problems.
- Solve problems and grievances and make independent decisions as required.
- Inform appropriate authority as required when an emergency situation
arises.
- Counsel and guide Nurse Managers as well as the nursing staff.
- Serve as a resource to staff for clinical problems.
- Assist staff to efficiently utilize staffing resources to meet patient
care requirements.
- Adjust staffing schedules as needed for adequate coverage in normal and
crisis times.
- Control overtime for all units.
- Monitor workflow, productivity, quality of care and safety.
- Promote harmonious relationships of personnel, setting and example of
loyalty and take corrective actions as required.
- Anticipate problems that may occur and act proactively.
- Complete all other duties requested by the Director of Nursing.
Evaluate the quality of nursing care :
- Continuously evaluate nursing care provision by making frequent rounds in
all nursing areas to investigate and assess needs and problems.
- Evaluate nursing care by checking on nurses' work and providing guidance
and advice as required.
- Monitor and assure accuracy of recording on patient medical records.
- Assist nursing staff in conducting PI by sharing knowledge and participate
in research projects.
Maintain safe environment :
- Investigate and report errors and accidents such as falls of patients or
injuries, medication errors, etc.
- Prepare incident reports.
- Communicate with concerned personnel and make recommendations.
- Coordinate with other departments like security, pharmacy and medical team
to facilitate the flow of work in the hospital.
- Assume responsibility for meeting JCI required mandatory education, e.g.,
fire, safety, infection control and others.

Education:
Minimum Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
Preferred Education: Master's Degree in
Nursing or related field.
Licensure /
Certifications:
Lebanese Nursing Colloquium.
Nursing License
from the Ministry of Public Health.
Member of the Order of Nurses in
Lebanon.
Membership in professional nursing organization.
Preferred
Requirement:
Certification from a professional nursing
organization.
Experience:
Minimum Experience: 7
years of experience as Registered Nurse, preferably 2 years of which are as a
Nurse Manager.
Languages:
Minimum Languages: Arabic
and English (EEE >/= 500).
Preferred Languages: French is an asset.
Computer Skills:
Proficient in Microsoft Office
applications.
