Basic Functions
Oversee assigned Lab operations, develop protocols, and ensure adherence to established procedures. Manage supply requisitions, maintain section policies, and supervise staff, overseeing their work, attendance, and training. Support the mission and vision of the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC) and that of the department.
Minimum Requirements
  • Education: Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology. Preferred Education: Master's Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences, Public Health, or related field.
  • Experience: Minimum Experience: 5 - 7 years of experience at AUBMC out of which 2 years are as PLM Team Lead or 7 - 9 years of experience in a similar healthcare setting, 2 years are in supervisory role.
  • Languages: Minimum Languages: Arabic and English (IET score >/= 500)
  • Computer Skills: Proficient in the use of Microsoft applications Ability to interact with Hospital and/or laboratory information systems effectively.

Job Summary

Essential Functions / Task Groups
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee the operational workflow of the laboratory department to ensure optimal standards of patient care. This includes conducting audits, reviewing reports, and maintaining detailed documentation to uphold quality and efficiency in departmental operations.
  • Oversee laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, analysis, and result recording, ensuring compliance with accreditation standards. Evaluate and update procedures as necessary.
  • Perform non-routine and specialized tests and procedures efficiently, adhering to established standards, protocols, and quality control measures. Summarize test results, write reports, and contribute to statistical data collection and reporting.
  • Participate extensively in the preparation for inspections by relevant accrediting bodies. Ensure compliance with proficiency testing requirements and address any corrective actions needed.
  • Assist in budget preparation, including recommending manpower, supplies, and equipment, conducting cost analysis, and pricing.
  • Maintain an updated inventory of laboratory items, replenishing supplies regularly.
  • Plan, perform, and review method and reagent validation, as well as defined equipment and instrument maintenance protocols. This includes following manufacturer and department procedures, troubleshooting instrument malfunctions, ensuring equipment availability, and documenting periodic preventive maintenance.
  • Advise and collaborate with other section supervisors on policy and procedure manual preparation, equipment selection, and laboratory organization.
  • Manage human resources functions, including recruiting, selecting, orienting, appraising, coaching, training staff, and fostering professional development in collaboration with the Human Resources Department (HRD).
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by direct supervisor.

Knowledge / Know-How

Knowledge:
Expertise in laboratory operations and procedures
Extensive knowledge of medical terminology
Extensive knowledge of laboratory safety and infection control procedures and practices including standard precautions and hazardous chemical handling
Knowledge of relevant accreditation and Joint Commission International (JCI) standards
Knowledge of American Association of Blood Banks (AABB) standards

Education:
Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology.
Preferred Education: Master's Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences, Public Health, or related field.

Technical and administrative supervision of assigned Lab non-academic staff.
