Job Summary
The
Practical Nurse provides
direct and indirect age-specific patient care services for assigned patients per
scheduled shifts within framework of Patient Centered Care (PCC). The
Practical Nurse performs
nursing duties that meet the physical, psychosocial, cultural, and general needs
of the patient and family, while maintaining institution requirements, nursing
and hospital policies, procedures and standards. Communicates with team members
about changes in the
patient's
clinical condition. Abides
by the Joint Commission International Accreditation
(JCI)
requirements, including but not limited to International Patient
Safety
Goals,
national and international standards.
Supports
the mission and vision of the American University of Beirut Medical Center
(AUBMC) and of the Nursing Services Department.
Essential Functions / Task Groups
Age-specific patient-centered care:
- Assist with the admission, transfer and discharge of patients.
- Perform nursing activities assigned to patients. This includes: performing
treatments, providing all aspects of care appropriate to condition and age of
the patient in an environment that optimizes patient safety.
- Obtain and record vital signs and performed treatments, observe and report
symptoms to the Registered Nurse.
- Demonstrate ability to set goals, anticipate problems, and achieve quality
results.
- Contribute to and participate in the implementation of a planned care for
assigned patients based on their needs and according to the institution
standards of care and practice.
- Demonstrate required assessment and therapeutic skills specific to their
level of preparation.
- Provide basic life support when needed.
- Demonstrate competence in assisting in diagnosing tests and carrying out
nursing treatments.
- Respond to patients needs promptly and answer their requests within the
job requirements.
- Implement appropriate hygiene measures such as partial and complete baths
and personal hygiene.
- Assist registered nurses in delivering pre-operative and post-operative
patient care.
- Apply safety measures related to patient care. This includes checking
patients with restraint, assisting and feeding patients as needed.
Functional/Technical Duties:
- Maintain a clean, neat, and safe environment for patient and staff.
- Follow hospital policies and guidelines regarding infection control and
waste management.
- Assist in maintaining an adequate stock of supplies. Demonstrate correct
and safe technique in the use of equipment according to specific product
information & standards of care and practice manuals.
- Collect and label specimen such as pathologies, urine, sputum, drainage
and other as ordered for testing.
- Perform cleaning duties as directed. Include cleaning and disinfecting
equipment and instruments, packing equipment and instruments for
sterilization, checking on physician cubicles’ examination tables and linen
and keeping the unit in order.
- Assume responsibility for meeting JCI required mandatory education, e.g.,
fire, safety, infection control and others.

Education:
Minimum Education: Practical Nurse
Diploma or BT Nursing.
Field of Expertise: Nursing Care.

Languages:
Minimum Languages: Arabic and
English (EET>/= 500)
Preferred Languages: French is an asset
Computer Skills:
Basic knowledge in the use of
Microsoft Office.
