Job Summary
Provides direct and indirect age specific
nursing care for pediatric patients in the Specialty Clinics within the
framework of Patient Centered Care (PCC). Primarily responsible for professional
performance and safe patient care including a major focus on patient and family
education. The role encompasses assessing, diagnosing and sharing the plan with
physicians, intervening appropriately, evaluating and coordinating care for
patients across the health care continuum involving families. It also includes
monitoring and providing adequate patient flow, as well as ensuring smooth
operations in the Pediatrics Specialty Clinics. Accountable for clinical,
educational, quality, and fiscal patient care outcomes, using the PCC principles
and in accordance with established institution's policies, procedures,
guidelines, Professional Practice Model and standards of care and practice.
Carries out planned activities to promote Magnet standards and participates in
voluntary community activities. Promotes a work environment that supports and
facilitates ethical practice, in accordance with the ANA Code of Ethics and the
Lebanese Order of Nurses Code of Ethics. Practices within the ANA Bill of
Rights. Utilizes knowledge of human development stages, and cultural diversity
into the provision of patient care. Abides by the Joint Commission international
Accreditation (JCIA) requirements, including but not limited to International
Patient safety Goals, national and international standards.
Support the
mission and vision of the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC)
and the Nursing Services Department.
Essential Functions / Task Groups
Patient-Centered Care:
- Perform specialty oriented patient centered assessment using appropriate,
problem focused, and age-specific assessment techniques.
- Plan, provide and document professional nursing care in Specialty Clinics
Pediatrics utilizing the nursing process in accordance with established
policies and procedures.
- Use the nursing process, collect and analyze patient data, make
recommendations for nursing care plans, evaluate nursing care provided,
document and communicate appropriately nursing actions taken and patient
responses.
- Perform tele-nursing activities. This includes taking messages regarding
medical questions and calling patients back with answers in coordination with
the physician. It also includes chronic disease management, INR management,
E-forms and telephone triaging.Perform test result management.
- Document all relevant data in the medical record according to
hospital/departmental standards.
- Involve the patient, significant others, and health care providers in the
plan of care when appropriate.
- Administer medications including but not limited to vaccines, monitor
desirable and undesirable effects and intervene accordingly.
- Assist physicians with special procedures and/or minor surgeries.
- Provide clinical support to physicians.
- Recognize subtle cues to anticipate potential problems.
- Demonstrate required assessment and therapeutic skills.
- Implement and monitor infection control measures.
- Apply safety measures related to patient care.
- Operate all unit required equipment safely.
- Secure and check medical equipment and instruments. Include checking
proper functioning, quality control, preventive maintenance and reporting
defects or suspicions to the Nurse Manager.
- Ensure availability and maintenance of supplies and equipment needed for
the unit and patient care.
- Perform clerical duties when needed.
- Provide basic life support when needed.
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings when needed.
- Involve patient and family in multidisciplinary meetings whenever needed.
- Provide emotional support and measures to alleviate fear and anxiety.
- Assess patient and family readiness and identify learning needs.
- Provide patient and family education including disease specific,
treatment/procedure, health promotion, etc.
Quality and Effectiveness of Nursing Practice:
- Assist in research activities and in the collection of relevant data.
- Conduct and/or participate in PI projects.
- Participate in quality initiatives and quality improvement activities for
improving the unit standards of quality provided.
- Participate in voluntary community health activities to promote, maintain
and restore health and prevent diseases.
- Prepare and present community sessions to patients in the Specialty
Clinics.
- Prepare educational materials when needed.
- Accountable for the patient, the organization, the profession, and self.
- Accountable for the use of patients’ and hospital resources.
- Assume responsibility for meeting JCI required mandatory education, e.g.,
fire, safety, infection control and others.

Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree of Science in Nursing.

Requirements:
Minimum Requirement: Nursing
Colloquium, Nursing License from the Ministry of Public Health, Registered in
the Order of Nurses in Lebanon, and Basic Life Support Certification.
Languages:
Minimum Languages: Arabic and English
(IET >/= 500)
Preferred Languages: French is an asset.
Computer Skills:
Knowledge in the use of Microsoft
Office Applications.
