The Social Services Department has an opening for the position of Social Worker in grade 10. Basic Functions
Plan, organize and implement social work services for patients and families including but not limited to providing support, assistance, and helping them adjust to social, psychological and economic problems resulting from patient's illness and during crisis.
Support the mission and vision of the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC) and that of the department.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work (BSW).
  • 0 - 2 years of experience as a Social Worker in a similar healthcare setting.
  • Arabic and English (IET >/= 500). French is an asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office applications.

Job Summary

Essential Functions / Task Groups
  • Greet, receive, and create a positive experience for every patient/family by demonstrating a professional, caring, empathetic and friendly approach following the service excellence standards and guidelines.
  • Perform social work services to patients and their families including but not limited to conducting interviews, reviewing  medical charts, developing an intervention plan, and properly follow up on the evaluation of the plan recommended.
  • Assist patients and their families to cope with changes associated with illnesses, hospitalization an in-crisis situation as well as interpret the need for self-awareness and perception to help the patient apply his/her inner resources to resolve his problems.
  • Participate actively in interdisciplinary patient care conferences, to review treatment goals, optimize resource utilization and identify post hospital needs.
  • Coordinate and facilitate transfers among various levels of care within the institution or/ and outside service.
  • Provide financial assistance to help patient meet ongoing medical care expenses.
  • Perform adequate psycho social assessments on casework services for patients/family on simple problems, as well as identify patients who are in need for case management intervention based on social service criteria and cost containment.
  • Conduct, evaluate and project discharge planning needs and requirements.
  • Coordinate care and resources with other team members and hospital administration to plan appropriate and timely discharges in order to achieve optimal outcome.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by direct supervisor.

Education:
Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree in Social Work (BSW).

Experience:
Minimum Experience: 0 - 2 years of experience as a Social Worker in a similar healthcare setting.

Languages:
Minimum Languages: Arabic and English (IET >/= 500).
Preferred Languages: French is an asset.

Computer Skills:
Proficiency in Microsoft office applications.
