The Animal Care Facility has an opening for the position of Technician (Animal Care Facility) in grade 8 starting at a salary of LBP 1,060,460.- per month. Perform routine duties associated with animal care, cage sanitation and general cleanliness of animal quarters as well as perform simple procedures on animals (shaving, weighing, fasting animals,..). Assist research personnel by performing manual labor and set up the operating room for training workshops.
Support the mission and vision and of the American University of Beirut Faculty of Medicine (AUBFM) and that of the Department.
Minimum Requirements
  • BACC II
  • 2 years of experience in animal care related field
  • Strong command of Arabic and English (IET >/= 450)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications

Essential Functions / Task Groups

Functional Duties:

  • Demonstrate proficiency in basic animal care, husbandry, room sanitation, animal room maintenance and operations and records keeping.
  • Provide appropriate food and water to the animals, breed animals and keep records.
  • Keep records of consumed feed, sawdust and supplies as well as monitor room conditions such as temperature, humidity, and lighting.
  • Perform cage changing and/or cage cleaning as required as described by Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Assist researchers in giving anesthesia to animals.
  • Regularly involved in the setting up of the operating room for procedures and workshops.
  • Perform technical skilled work in the operating room as requested.
  • Monitor daily animal health and welfare while performing daily animal health observations.
  • Dispose of animal carcasses following established procedures.
  • Operate equipment and uses supplies according to safety guidelines
  • Maintain rodent colonies and apply proper record keeping.
  • Responsible for receiving and inspecting animals when on duty.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
