The Anesthesia has an opening for the position of Anesthesia Therapist in grade 10 starting at a salary of LBP 1,298,413.- per month. Basic Functions
Perform a variety of moderate to complex duties related to assisting the Anesthesiologist / Resident pre, intra and post operatively in the provision of anesthesia care in the operating rooms (OR) as well as maintaining supplies & equipment needed for this task.
Support the mission and vision of the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC) and of Anesthesia & Pain Management Department.
Minimum Requirements
  • LT Nursing. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or related sciences is preferred.
  • BLS, Drug & ACLS Certification are required.
  • 3 years of experience as Anesthesia Therapist Intern or equivalent experience.
  • Strong command of Arabic and English (IET >/= 500).
  • Knowledgeable in the use of Microsoft office applications and other software as needed for the job.

Job Summary

Support the mission and vision of the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC) and of Anesthesia & Pain Management Department.
Essential Functions / Task Groups

Technical / Clinical Duties:

Carry out moderate to complex anesthesia procedures as assigned.
Assist the Anesthesiologist in the pre-operative assessment of patients.
Prepare medications & supplies as per preference cards and/or per physician order.
Carry out invasive and noninvasive hemodynamic patient monitoring.
Prepare anesthesia supplies such as IV supplies, airway supplies, invasive/non-invasive monitoring supplies & others.
Operate patient monitors of various types (vital signs, respiratory parameters, invasive hemodynamic monitoring).
Perform intravenous catheter insertion and intubation under the supervision of the physician.
Assist physician in the provision of moderate/deep sedation or general anesthesia outside the OR as per departmental safety standards.
Perform blood gas and electrolytes analysis:
- Obtain arterial blood sample via arterial puncture or from indwelling arterial line
- Handle and analyze blood sample
- Report online results of analyzed samples to ordering physician
Perform blood activated clotting time testing:
- Obtain arterial or venous blood sample via venous, arterial puncture or from indwelling arterial line
- Run sample into blood clotting timer
- Report result to ordering physician
Participate and assist physician in patient care of General (induction, maintenance, emergence) and/or Regional anesthesia ):
- Provide medications, supplies and special equipment as per physician order:
- Document medications & vital signs on anesthesia records
- Perform suctioning and airway clearance
- Assist in difficult airway management such as Fiber optic or video assisted Intubation or other techniques
- Assist physician during the emergence phase
- Assist in patient transfer to critical care areas or PACU
- Participate and assist in the care of patients undergoing pain procedure
Provide assisted ventilation during transport from Operating Room to other units.
Assist in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation:
- Help in tracheal intubation
- Administer medications as per physician order
Secure operating room readiness for subsequent cases while minimizing turnover time.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Equipment and Supplies Management:

Check medical equipment used in the department on a daily and/or shift basis:
- Check on a daily basis anesthesia machines and accessories
- Check on a shift basis for completeness of anesthesia carts & document on checklist as per department
recommendations
- Identify & report equipment malfunctioning
- Troubleshoot minor equipment malfunctioning
- Check and document temperature in special storage areas such as blood , medication fridge & pharmacy room on a daily basis
- Perform qualicheck on blood gas analyzers & Activated Clotting Time (ACT) machines
Clean and disinfect supplies and equipment:
- Disassemble and assemble equipment and instruments used during patient care following standard procedures
- Clean and disinfect equipment and instruments following their use
- Send and bring back special equipment to CSSD or endoscopy suite for cleaning
Maintain Supplies and Medications:
- Check the availability of supplies
- Receive supplies and maintain adequate inventory
- Organize supplies neatly
- Keep not in use drugs under lock
- Replace empty sets from the pharmacy stores
- Report immediately any loss or abuse
Maintain availability, accuracy and safety of narcotic ad psychotropic medications:
- Perform daily and on every shift checking of records and amounts

Administrative Duties:

Perform self-development activities:
- Participate in educational programs and in-service meetings
- Attend meetings as required.
Adhere to departmental and hospital rules and regulations:
- Maintain established policies and procedures, objectives and quality assurance program
- Fill vacation requests using online system
Monitor & document charging of supplies & medications.

Education:
Minimum education: LT Nursing
