Job Summary
Perform a variety of moderate to complex
duties related to assisting the Anesthesiologist / Resident pre, intra and post
operatively in the provision of anesthesia care in the Operating Rooms (OR) and
outside OR as well as maintaining supplies and equipment needed for this task.
Maintain focus on the patient to promote a positive experience.
Support the
mission and vision of the American University of Beirut Medical Center (AUBMC)
and of the Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine Department.
Essential Functions / Task Groups
A – Patient Centered Care Duties (70%)
Assist physician
in the provision of different types of anesthesia (general, moderate/deep
sedation and regional anesthesia) inside and outside the OR as well as pain
management.
Perform the anesthesia services (intubation, administer
medication, IV insertion, suctioning, blood gas, blood activated clotting time
testing etc...) and carry out invasive and non-invasive hemodynamic patient
monitoring under the medical supervision of the Anesthesiologist.
Prepare
anesthetic equipment, medications and supplies as per physician order and
according to standard operating procedures.
Provide assisted ventilation
during transport from Operating Room to other units.
Assist in
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation as well as administer medications and help in
tracheal intubation as per physician order.
Relief residents in OR when
needed and provide handover to post anesthesia care nurses.
Assess, analyze,
and evaluate adequacy and response of the patient's condition before
transferring to a post operative unit.
Assist in difficult airway management
such as Fiber optic, video laryngoscope intubation or other
techniques.
Perform any related duties as assigned by supervisor.
B - Equipment and Supplies Management (30%)
Check anesthesia machines and accessories used in the department on a daily
and/or shift basis as well as check for completeness of anesthesia carts and
document on checklist as per department recommendations.
Identify and report
equipment malfunctioning as well as clean and disinfect supplies and equipment
daily and in between cases.
Maintain supplies and medications and ensure
availability, accuracy and safety of narcotic ad psychotropic medications as
well as monitor and document charging.

Knowledge / Know-How
Knowledge:
Assigned to cases that require a level of
experience that is commensurate with skills at the discretion of the
Anesthesiologist
Specialized knowledge in anesthesia principles, practices,
agents and equipment
Specialized knowledge of structure, function and care of
all components of anesthesia delivery systems
Education:
Minimum education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or related
sciences
Certification: BLS, Drug & ACLS Certification
Experience:
Minimum Experience: 2 years of
experience as Anesthesia Therapist
Languages:
Minimum Languages: Arabic and English (IET >/= 500).
Computer Skills:
Knowledgeable in the use of
Microsoft office applications and other software as needed for the job.
Impact of Actions / Decisions
Inadequate treatment followed will
negatively affect the wellbeing of the patient and will affect the image of
AUBMC as well as patient satisfaction.
