Job Summary
Report, evaluate and maintain records of infections among patients and
personnel as well as review and evaluate all aseptic, isolation and sanitation
techniques employed in the Medical Center and report any discrepancies.
Support the mission and vision of the American University of Beirut Medical
Center (AUBMC) and that of the Department.
Essential Functions / Task Groups
Functional/Technical Duties:
Conduct daily rounds, study and review infection control policies and ensure
they are updated according to set standards.
Observe and report compliance
with all aseptic, isolation and sanitation techniques employed in the Medical
Center.
Review and analyze clinical documentation in patient records and
report any special.
Assess environmental control through routine
environmental rounds, environmental culturing and air sampling especially in
high risk areas.
Conduct audits using Center of Disease Control (CDC)
definitions for Hospital Acquired Infections as well as Hand Hygiene by
conducting surveillance rounds, implementing action plans and compiling a
monthly report.
Participate and issue infection control risk assessment
related to the Medical Center construction and renovations to ensure that
infection control issues are addressed and to prevent transmission of pathogens
to immunocompromised patients.
Evaluate communicable disease exposure within
the Medical Center.

Knowledge / Know-How
Knowledge:
Knowledge of principles and practices in
healthcare field with emphasis on infection control.

collection techniques.
Education:
Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree in
Nursing, Epidemiology or related field
Preferred Education: Master's Degree
in Public Heath or related field such as Infection Control or Risk
Management.
Experience/Certification:
Minimum
Experience/Certification: Certified Board in Infection Control with 5 years of
experience in Infection Control OR at least 7-9 years' of experience in a
similar Infection Control position.
Languages:
Minimum Languages: Arabic and English (EEE
score >/= 500).
Computer Skills:
Proficient use of Microsoft Office

Errors in reporting may lead to actions or decisions taken at the level of
the infection control committee and the administration that may be unwarranted
or cost the institution unnecessary expenditure of funds.
